The Council welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the January 2023 position paper “Safeguard Mechanism Reforms” (the Paper) and supporting rules and amendment documents. The Council has considered how options presented contribute towards meeting the continued global competitiveness of the Australian aluminium industry, while recognising that declining baselines need to be delivered in the context of Australia’s target of by net zero by 2050 and 43% by 2030, as well as corporate ambitions over similar periods.
