Alcoa – Rubber hits the road on tyre recycling

October 15, 2024

Old tyres are being given a new life thanks to a jointly led recycling initiative by Alcoa Australia and Tyrecycle, a global leader in tyre recycling.

As part of this initiative, “off-the-road” (OTR) haul truck tyres that have reached the end of their operational life are transported from Alcoa’s bauxite mines in the Peel and South West regions of Western Australia to Tyrecycle’s newly established East Rockingham facility. This facility processes the tyres into crumb rubber, which can be used in a variety of products such as a modified bitumen for roofing systems and soft surfaces for athletics tracks and playgrounds.
