The Australian Aluminium Council (the Council) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Consultation Paper on the National Electricity Market (NEM) Wholesale Market Settings Regulatory Reforms (the Paper).
The Council supported the development of the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM) during the 2026 Review on the basis that it would address the investment or ‘tenor’ gap without undermining incentives for customers to enter into long-term contracting arrangements themselves. The proposed cost relief mechanism is therefore fundamental to the Council’s support.
