Australia’s Alumina Refineries need to be at the forefront in developing strategies to cut emissions

The Executive Director of the Australian Aluminium Council, Marghanita Johnson, told Footprint that Australia’s alumina refineries would need to be at the forefront in developing strategies to cut emissions, given Australia is the world’s second largest alumina producer. “Alumina production and technology is also an area where Australia is highly skilled and has more than 50 years of experience,” she said, pointing out that both Rio Tinto and Alcoa have their alumina research centres headquartered here.
